Erie County was ranked second for Syphilis and Chlamydia case rates per 100,000 residents amongst the counties in New York State and third for Gonorrhea. There has also been a general increase in the number of STDs cases in Erie County based on comparative studies for 2015 and 2016.
Chlamydia recorded the highest number of STD cases in 2016 at 5201 compared to an initial count of 5063 in 2015. This accounted for a 2.7 percent increase in its prevalence.
Gonorrhea reported 1874 cases in 2017 which was an increase from 1720 cases reported. This accounted for an 8.9 percent increase.
Syphilis cases were lower at 134 in 2016 as compared to 170 cases reported in 2015. This accounted for a 21 percent decrease in the incidence rate between the two years.
