Daphne, AL, a city in Baldwin County, is under threat from an STD outbreak that's continuing to grow.
In 2016, the county reported 606 chlamydia cases. Two years later, in 2018, it recorded 654 new infections.
Gonorrhea infections are increasing with 160 in 2016 jumping to 218 in 2018.
Primary and secondary syphilis diagnoses are also of concern. In 2017, Baldwin County listed five cases. The next year, in 2018, it had nine. In 2016, the county had four early latent syphilis infections, and in 2018, the number of diagnoses doubled to four.
Late latent syphilis is another concern with four new cases in 2016 rising to ten in 2018.
Officials at the county health department are concerned about the area's growing STD rate and are asking all persons that are sexually active to seek regular screenings.
