Tazewell County Department of Health noted a drop in the number of HIV infections in East Peoria from 54 at a rate of 49 in 2013 to 48 at a rate of 43 in 2018.
There was, however, an escalation of Chlamydia infections from 216 at a rate of 168.1 in 2008 to 367 at a rate of 271.1 in 2017.
Gonorrhea infections fluctuated over the years, and the cases were prevalent among individuals aged 20 to 24 years. A total of 36 infections at a rate of 28.0 were reported in 2008, and in 2017, the number had risen to 88 at a rate of 65.0.
Syphilis infections in East Peoria were notably low due to fewer cases of men who have sex with men. Only one infection was reported in 2008, and in 2017, there were no reported cases.
