STD Test Statistics for Enterprise
Health officials have known for years that STD rates are on the rise in Las Vegas, and this means that venereal infections are also increasing in Enterprise. For the past twenty years the number of residents who test positive for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea has been growing, and now recent statistics report that this is also true for Syphilis.
Between 2012 and 2016 primary and secondary Syphilis incidents increased 128 percent, giving the region one of the highest rates in the nation. Out of 694 reported cases an estimated 615 occurred in men, which means that this sexually transmitted disease is quickly becoming an epidemic.
The Herpes virus is also becoming more prevalent, according to CDC data, especially among teens. This is also worrisome for health officials considering that the majority of those infected contracted the disease while they were in school. Some blame these high numbers on sexual activity, but it should be noted that since teen pregnancy rates are down this is probably not the only way the virus is being spread. With STD rates rising in the small township, health officials stress that something needs to be done to help protect residents. Some of the information residents should be concerned about includes,
- In March 2014 there were 881 cases of Chlamydia reported compared to 911 in March 2016.
- The number of Gonorrhea incidents rose from 170 in March 2014 to 228 reported in March 2016.
- 2014 saw 59 cases of primary and secondary Syphilis compared 62 reported in just the first three months of 2016.
Sexual Education and STD Tests
In a city where almost “anything goes” it might be surprising to learn that the sexual education classes in the public school system are lacking in current and pertinent information. Currently the state endorses a program that stresses abstinence, and while it does cover information on the various ways STDs can be spread there is nothing on how students can protect themselves.
Making it even harder for teens to get the information they need is the fact that the sex education program requires a parent’s permission in order for the student to participate. This means that if the information does not make it home for parents approval students are not allowed in the classes. With STD rates rising in the city this can be potentially dangerous for everyone’s health.
This is not to say that there aren’t benefits to supporting sexual abstinence. It is the best way to prevent teen pregnancy. What it is not able to do is protect students’ sexual health, and this also puts other residents at risk. One important step is regular Herpes testing in Enterprise, especially for high school students who are often the most at risk. Regular HIV testing in Enterprise is also critical, regardless of your sexual activity. Only through regular testing will the city start to see its STD rates start to go down.
Demographics and STD Testing
It is clear that the number of sexually transmitted infections is increasing each year, and there are several reasons why. The high numbers of tourists that visit the surrounding city are contributing to the problem, especially since the majority of them will not be tested before paying a visit to The Strip.
The lack of education in the public schools is making it almost impossible for students to get the information they need, and a large number of them are not even sure how to properly use contraceptives. Not only is this putting them at risk for a venereal disease, but it can also lead to an increase in teen pregnancy rates.
One surprising new cause for the spike in the number of men who test positive for Syphilis is online dating. The number of apps that make “hook ups” easy are increasing, and now men and women do not have to spend a lot of time looking for company. While this might be beneficial for someone’s love life it is also making it easier for others to spread STDs, especially since the majority of residents do not get tested on a regular basis.
Other contributing factors to the high STD rate in the small township include a lack of health care options. There are clinics in the downtown Vegas area, but the distance makes it inconvenient for many residents to get there. The neighborhoods are often unsafe, which is also causing people to forego this important health step. Without regular testing though the city will see its STI percentages continue to go up.
Better Health with STD Testing
While the casinos and night clubs on The Strip can make you forget about taking care of your health, this is still no reason to not get tested for all of the STDs at least twice a year. It is understandable that you don’t want to spend a whole day waiting to see a health care professional, and now you don’t have to. With one phone call you can schedule confidential STD testing at a convenient lab and still have plenty of time to try your luck at the casinos.
