Introduction

What are the STI test options in La Crosse,WI?

The county seat of La Crosse County, La Crosse, is a college town—drawing many new residents every year. With an ever-changing population, La Crosse hasn’t managed to dodge the nationwide trend of rising STD rates.

For 2016, the La Crosse area reported 528 new cases of chlamydia. 68% of those new cases affected women and 260 of those cases from young adults in the 20-24 age range.

Giving La Crosse County a rate of 503 per 100,000 people tested. The second most common STI, gonorrhea, was reported at a reasonably low rate of 30 per 100,000 people. It also was found most commonly in young adults aged 15-24. Syphilis, both primary and secondary, had a rate of 4 per 100,000 in 2016. Only 2 new cases of HIV were diagnosed in La Crosse in 2016.

If you’re in the La Crosse area and need to get tested, there are a few affordable options available. Essential Health Clinic on Caledonia Street offers testing for: chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital warts, genital herpes, HIV, and trichomoniasis. HIV and trichomoniasis results are available the same day, but other test results may take a week or more. They prefer you call ahead to schedule your appointment, but will try to squeeze in walk-ins. The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin might offer free STD testing (for eligible patients), and also screens for STIs in people living with HIV, call for an appointment.
