Oroville is the county seat of Butte County, a county that had an inconsistent rate of new HIV infections between 2016 and 2018.
Records from the public health department showed that 14 cases were reported in 2016 at a rate of 6.2 per group of 100,000 individuals, seven in 2017 at a prevalence of 3.1 in every 100,000 residents, and nine in 2018 occurring at a rate of 4.0 per 100,000 population.
Furthermore, a similar inconsistency was observed in the number of Chlamydia diagnoses between 2016 and 2018. 1,288 new cases were recorded in 2016 at a rate of 572.2, which dropped to 1,210 infections in 2017 at a rate of 533.8, and then rose again in 2018 to 1,320 diagnoses rated at 579.4.
A spike was noted in the number of new Syphilis incidences recorded between 2017 and 2018. The first year of reference had 60 reported infections that occurred at a rate of 26.5 whereas data collected in 2017 reflected 81 new cases prevailing at a rate of 35.6.
New Gonorrhea infections fluctuated between 2016 and 2018, with 2016 having 374 at a rate of 143.9. In 2017, Gonorrhea diagnoses were 307 at a rate of 135.4 and in the final year of reference, the number had grown to 424 at a rate of 186.1.
