Santa Cruz County recorded seven incident cases of HIV in 2018. The statistics showed a slight increase from the previous year, whose HIV count was six. They also show that people aged between 30 to 34 are most vulnerable to the disease.
In 2017, Chlamydia had the highest number of STD infections as the county recorded 1113 cases. The number of cases rose by 12 % to 1251 in 2018, with women under 25 years of age affected the most.
The county noted a significant decrease in the number of Gonorrhea cases reported in 2018, with a count of 306 in comparison to 318 recorded incidents in 2017. Gonorrhea cases occur twice as much among men than women in the county.
Cases of Syphilis decreased by 16 % from 2017 to 2018, with the former year recording 74 cases and the latter 62. The STD mostly affects gay and bisexual men as well as women.
