Socastee, SC, is a city in Horry County that is in the midst of an STD outbreak that's not slowing down.

There were 535 new gonorrhea cases in 2015, and two years later, in 2017, it had 938, or a rate change from 173 infections for every 100,000 people to 291.
In 2015, the county had 34 new syphilis cases, and in 2017, they reported 74, or a rate increase from 11 infections for every 100,000 residents to 23.
Horry County health officials are trying to reduce these numbers through preventive care and are urging all sexually active individuals to seek regular STD testing and keep themselves and their loved one safe from these infections.
