Tullahoma is a city in Coffee and Franklin counties within the South Central Tennessee Public Health Region. HIV surveillance data from the inherent counties indicated a gradual drop in new HIV infections between 2016 and 2018. There were 26 new infections in 2016, 21 in 2017, and 16 in the last year of reference.
On the other hand, there was a significant increase in new Chlamydia infections between 2015 and 2017. Public health officials in the region noted 1,316 cases in 2015 at a prevalence of 334.9 in every 100,000 persons, and in 2017, they recorded 1,582 diagnoses at an incidence rate of 392.9 per group of 100,000 individuals.
Also, Syphilis diagnoses made in 2017 were more than double those recorded in 2015. In 2015, eight new infections were prevailing at 2.0 in every 100,000 people, whereas in 2017, the number of new infections stood at 17 at a rate of 4.2 in every population of 100,000.
Furthermore, an increase was observed in the number of new Gonorrhea infections tabled between 2016 and 2017. The former year had 293 cases at a rate of 73.7 in every 100,000 persons, whereas 321 new infections were reported in 2017 at a rate of 79.7 in every cluster of 100,000 people.
The South Central Tennessee Public Health Region has shown promising results in preventing the further spread of HIV infection. However, more needs to be done concerning the other STDs.
