Eden, NC, the largest city in Rockingham County, registered a fluctuating number of new HIV infections between 2017 and 2019. The county’s HIV surveillance data revealed that nine persons were positively diagnosed in 2017 at a rate of 11.6 and eight in 2018 at a rate of 10.3. Conversely, there was a downward development in the number of Syphilis diagnoses reported between 2017 and 2019, where 12 persons tested positive at a rate of 13.2 in 2017 and four were positively diagnosed in 2019 at a rate of 4.4.
Nonetheless, 419 new Chlamydia infections were recorded in the county in 2018, with that number increasing to 460 cases in 2019, happening at an incidence rate of 505.4.
