Lakewood is part of the Denver metropolitan area, and that city has some of the highest STD rates in the country. But Lakewood’s rates are lower.

Since then, they have quickly become the largest community center in the Rocky Mountain region that dedicates their entire services and programs towards those in the LGBTQ community. Their services help members of the LGBTQ community have better, happier, and healthier lives inside and outside of the center. This center currently has 19 staff members and 550 volunteers that help the center offer its concise services and programs.
Just some of the programs the community will be able to find here include a space for LGBTQ youth, exciting activities for LGBTQ senior citizens, a transgender program that offers resources and support groups, and a family program that hosts many family events throughout the year.

The initiative offers HIV education and training, client referrals, and support groups. Brother Jeff who is a multimedia journalist and community organizer runs the health initiative and cultural center.

The state of Colorado has recently enacted legislation that requires schools to offer medically accurate sexual education classes to its students. The information taught is based on students’ ages, and covers everything from abstinence to how to properly use contraceptives.
