According to the Oakland County Health Division 2016 Health report, there has been a decline of new HIV diagnoses reported with a little bit of an inconsistent trend over the years. However, the overall infection rate has remained stable.
In 2013, total HIV infections were 140, and in 2016, the number increased slightly to 144 cases. This represented a 6.67 percent increase of the infected persons in the population.
An increase in the number of Chlamydia was reported. In 2012 there were 3,483 Chlamydia cases. Four years later, in 2016, the number had risen to 4,192 cases with 5.25 percent.
Since 2012, Gonorrhea infections have experienced a downward trend until 2016 when they shot from the 836 cases reported in 2012 to 1,023 cases in 2016 at a rate of 35.5 percent.
Syphilis cases have been fluctuating from 2012 without a consistent trend. OCHD reports indicated a large increase in 2013, but in 2015 and 2016, a decrease in the cases was observed. In 2012, 96 cases were identified in the population whereas, in 2016, the number had increased to 167 cases.
The Oakland County Health Division has established an early detection and treatment program that includes effective STD screening, testing, and treatment services to be done in clinics and correctional facilities.
