HIV infections in Yavapai County, home to Verde city, rose from 178 cases in 2007, to 293 at a rate of 5 in 2016.
There was an upsurge in the rate of Chlamydia infections in Yavapai County. The number rose from 160 per 100,000 persons in 2013 to a rate of 214.2 in 2016. The rate of infections was higher in the female population compared to the male population.
Gonorrhea infections multiplied in a short period of time with infections higher in the male population. From a rate of 15.5 per 100, 00 in 2013, the rate doubled to 32.4 percent in 2016.
The health reports noted low rates of Syphilis infections over the last few years. Only 6 cases of Syphilis infections were reported in 2016 at a rate of 2.7 per 100, 000 persons.
The Yavapai County Department of Health is working with the community to increase the awareness of STD/HIV by making more individuals informed of their status. The health department further assists in confronting barriers to social integration like stigma and prejudice faced by HIV patients.
