Introduction

What are the STI test options in Platteville,WI?

Platteville is the biggest city in Grant County, Wisconsin. At the 2010 census, the population was 11,224, up 11% from the 2000 census. Like other cities across the United States, HIV remains a persistent problem for Platteville.

In 2019, an estimated HIV prevalence rate of 50.0% among gay or bisexual males was reported in Grant County, the most recent year for which this information is available.

This rate  is proportional to the national rate since male-to-male sexual intercourse accounted for 66% of new HIV infections in the United States and six dependent territories in 2019. In the same year, heterosexual contact was responsible for 23% of HIV cases.

HIV is more prevalent among black/African American individuals. Additionally, the Hispanic/Latino community is disproportionately affected.

HIV is also most prevalent in adolescents and young adults aged 13 to 24. In 2019, youth accounted for the lion's share of HIV diagnoses. However, not all young people are similarly vulnerable. Young homosexual and bisexual males are particularly vulnerable.

Young homosexual and bisexual males who are Black/African American are disproportionately affected, since they account for the bulk of new HIV infections among young gay and bisexual men.

Platteville health officials warn sexually active individuals of an increased risk of developing STIs. As disease transmission rates have increased in recent years, citizens are recommended to undergo routine testing.

County leaders work together with health officials to raise public awareness about STDs.

STD testing is offered in a variety of public and private facililities. An example is Clarity Clinic of SW Wisconsin.

Free STD testing is offered in some of these sites. However, some of the tests are not comprehensive. You may also be unable to consult a doctor if you need one.
