Between Jan 1 and June 30 of 2019, the rate of new chlamydia diagnoses per 100,000 people in Ford was 244, more than 5 times higher than most surrounding counties in Kansas.
During the same six months in 2019, the gonorrhea rate was 44 per 100,000 residents and of the six surrounding counties, only Hodgerman had a higher rate than Ford.
Syphilis diagnoses are starting to occur, in 2018, the county reported one infection.
State and county officials in Kansas are concerned about the rising STD rates and are asking sexually active individuals get tested regularly for sexually transmitted infections including HIV.
Several locations provide STD testing in and near Dodge City, Kansas. Most clinics also offer STI education, as well as treatment and follow-up care when necessary.
One location is the Ford County Health Department in Dodge City on Avenue L, just off of E Wyatt Earp Blvd.
Another option is the Edwards County Health Department on 8th St. in nearby Kinsley. The clinic is inside the medical center.
