Kearns, a town in Salt Lake County, had one of the highest numbers of HIV infections compared to the other cities. The infections escalated from 1,732 at a prevalence rate of 215 in 2013 to 1,860 at a prevalence rate of 212 in the year 2018.
The county healthy reports recorded a surge in the number of Syphilis infections from 22 at a rate of 2.2 in 2008 to 86 at a rate of 7.6 in the year 2018.
Gonorrhea infections in the county rose from 334 at a rate of 33.4 in 2008 to 1,615 at a rate of 142.2 in 2017. Chlamydia infections had the highest numbers with 3,415 at a rate of 341.7 in 2008 to 5,293 at a rate of 466.1 in the year 2017.
Most of the young adults couldn’t be reached through traditional HIV/STD campaigns. The Salt Lake County department realized this challenge and came up with the performing arts initiative whose purpose is to deliver HIV control interventions through creative performance like dance, theater, music, and spoken word to youth who engage in risky sexual activities.
There are many health care facilities in Kearns city where a resident may go for a sexual health check-up like the Taylorsville InstaCare and Planned Parenthood – West Valley Health Center.
Some other facilities in the city one may visit are South Main Public Health Center, Jordan Valley Medical Center West Valley Campus.
Residents may get free STD/HIV testing during specific days of the months from some of the STD campaign events in the area, but not all STD tests may be free and doctors consultation may not always be provided.
