The population in Chubbuck, ID, in Bannock County, has snowballed for the past few years, exposing it to HIV/STD infections in the city.
According to the Southeastern Health District Report of Bannock County, HIV cases had increased from 66 in 2015 to 69 in 2017.
Increased sexual activity levels also encouraged the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. However, the report indicates Chlamydia slightly reduced from 578 in 2016 to 486 by the end of 2018.
The Public Health District also noted a steady rise in Gonorrhea cases. The data indicates Gonorrhea infections soared from 26 in 2016 to 116 in 2018.
Meanwhile, the county health report indicated a fluctuation of Syphilis cases in the county. Eight incidents were recorded in 2016, which dropped to five in 2017. However, they rose again to nine at the end of 2019.
The Health Department in Bannock County has developed Family Planning and STD Hotlines to distribute marketing materials to be used as a resource for responding to inquiries, identify testing facilities, and referrals for treatment and care. It also works with community-based organizations to promote national STI/STD campaigns and corresponding links on social media outlets.
