Located in the northern portion of the state, Hayden is a city in Kootenai County within the Panhandle Public Health District. The district witnessed double the number of new HIV infections in 2016 than in 2015, followed by a minute decline between 2017 and 2018.
According to HIV surveillance reports, three cases were diagnosed in 2015 while in 2016 had six, which rose to 16 in 2017 and dropped to six again in 2018.
In the case of Syphilis diagnoses, there was a constant increase between 2015 and 2017, followed by a minor drop in 2018. Reports showed that two individuals tested positive in 2015, nine in 2016, and 14 in 2017. In 2018, there were only 12 new cases.
That aside, steady growth was apparent when comparing the number of new Gonorrhea infections reported between 2016 and 2018. In the former year of reference, the public health district had 50 newly diagnosed patients, while 2017 and 2018 had 109 and 133 new infections correspondingly.
Similarly, the number of new Chlamydia infections continued to follow an upward trend between that same period. While 2016 had 655 new conditions, 2017 had 803 cases while 2018 had 837 positive diagnoses.
In coordination with the statewide HIV/STD prevention plan, the Panhandle Health District Kootenai County Health Department has been preventing further spread of the HIV/STD burden through condom distribution, comprehensive field investigations, efficient and timely partner notification services, and outreach screening services in both clinical and non-clinical settings.
