Brandermill, VA is a census-designated place in the Southside of Richmond City. The HIV surveillance team at the Richmond City Health Department reported an undulation in the number of new HIV cases reported between 2017 and 2019.
In 2017, there were 63 positively diagnosed individuals at a rate of 27.7 while in 2018, 77 people tested positive at a rate of 33.7.
A drop was evident in 2019, which had 60 new cases that prevailed at a rate of 26.2.

A similar upward trend was observed in the rate of Gonorrhea transmission in the city. There were 1,300 new cases in 2018, occurring at a rate of 568.2 while 1,357 new cases were reported in 2019 at a rate of 588.9.
Through the DoingItRVA coalition, local health administrators within the Richmond City Health District have been collaboratively working with non-profit, government-based, and private sector partners to coordinate HIV/STD prevention and treatment.
