What are the STI test options in Canton,IL?

Fulton County, where Canton, IL, is a city, showed fluctuations in the rate of HIV infections, increasing from 65 in 2014 and 2015 to 70 per 100,000 persons in 2017. The county’s public health officials made significant strides in reducing new diagnoses, recording a 35.7% decrease to a prevalence rate of 45 in 2018 and 2019. Sadly in the following year, there was a spike in the rate of infections to 57.

The Illinois Department of Public Health STD Section reported a wavy trend in the rate of Chlamydia infections among county residents, reducing from 234.7 to 175.3 in 2014 and 2016, respectively. In the following year, there was a 58.5% increase to a rate of 277.9 per 100,000 individuals. Subsequently, the rate of infections dropped to 188.8 in 2018.

The rate of Gonorrhea infections tripled from 16.2 reported in 2015 to 51.3 in the following year, succeeded by an escalation to 99.8 in 2017. Fortunately, the department of public health managed to reduce incidences of new infections by more than half to a rate of 43.2 per 100,000 persons in 2018.

On the other hand, there was a spike in early Syphilis infections in the county from nil incidences in 2015 and 2016 to a prevalence rate of 5.4 per 100,000 individuals in 2017 and 2018.

The Illinois Department of Public Health supports the Fulton County Health Department in running a comprehensive STD/HIV program that entails PEP/PrEP counseling, sex education, condom distribution, and screening to improve awareness among city and county residents. Other mitigation measures include Expedited Partner Therapy (EPT), training health care providers, and surveillance to ease HIV/STI prevention and care planning activities.

Planned Parenthood - Peoria Health Center, UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine - Canton, and Graham Medical Group are clinics in the Canton area where city residents can access STD/HIV screening services.

Some local healthcare facilities offer free STD testing, although testing hours and availability might not be consistent, and screening could be free for some STDs, not all.
