What are the STI test options in Port St. Lucie,FL?

Port St. Lucie’s STD rates are not as high as Miami’s, but the city still has a big problem. In 2015, Florida’s HIV rate was 615 cases per 100K people. St. Lucie County’s rate was a bit above that at 623. That year, there were 1,590 people living with HIV in the county.

Health officials point to several reasons for this problem. One important factor is homophobia: because of social stigma, many people who are at risk of infection are ashamed to come in for testing and treatment. And this results in late diagnosis. But medical professionals are discreet and help is available, so you should never put off learning your status and options.

Some organizations even offer periodic free STD testing events to entice people to come in.

St. Lucie County’s 2017 bacterial STD rates are a bit lower than Florida’s: 392.7 for chlamydia, 85 for gonorrhea, and 10 for infectious syphilis.

There are a number of STD-testing clinics in Port St. Lucie. The Florida Department of Health in St Lucie County offers STD and HIV screening in two locations (check the times before you go).

Xpress Urgent Care, on Prima Vista Blvd, offers screening for all STDs on a walk-in basis. CareSpot Urgent Care, located further east on the same street, also offers STD screening.

Reviewed by Our Medical Team
Your trusted source for comprehensive and unbiased STD testing locations, statistics, and resources. Backed by board-certified physicians and aligned with CDC guidelines, we're committed to providing accurate, up-to-date information to empower your health choices.

What STD tests do I need?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention1 (CDC) recommends screening for the most common STDs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, herpes 1, herpes 2, and HIV for both men and women. In addition, the CDC suggests women get screened for trichomoniasis.

SaferSTD recommends searching for locations that offer a 10-test panel which tests for the most common bacteria and viral STDs in the U.S. with additional premium add-ons like early HIV detection, if needed.

When should I get tested?

The CDC2 provides detailed STD testing information as to when you should get tested. In summary, you should get tested today if you are sexually active, never been tested before, have had unprotected sex in the past, or if you exhibit symptoms.

According to the World Health Organization3, the majority of STI cases reported every day, more than one million, are asymptomatic; another reason to get tested today.

You should get tested again in 90 days to rule out STDs that have specific exposure waiting times, including HIV.

How are STD tests done?

STD testing can be a quick and simple process, depending on the type of test you choose and where you get tested. Some may require an oral or genital swab, a urine test or blood sample, or a physical exam to check your genital area for signs of an STD.

SaferSTD has identified preferred providers that require only a urine test, a blood sample, or both without a physical exam.

How fast do I get my results?

The speed at which you receive your STD testing results depends on where you get tested. Before you choose your location, find out how long testing results will take.

At-home STD testing results are usually 3-5 business days, depending on the manufacturer of your test. You also need to take into account the amount of time it takes to receive the test or pick one up, perform the test, and ship it back, before the lab can analyze your results and report back to you.

If you test at a public facility such as a neighborhood clinic, you may have to wait a week, if not more for the results, which could delay treatment. If you test through a private facility, they have the fastest turnaround within 1-3 business days.

SaferSTD has researched and identified the most accredited and most reputable testing locations. Click here to find a preferred location near you.

What same-day testing locations are available in Port St. Lucie, FL?

Some STD testing clinics offer same-day walk-in options without an appointment. Below are nearby preferred locations that offer this option.

How much will STD testing cost in Port St. Lucie, FL?

The cost of STD testing depends on whether you select private, public, or at-home testing, as well as the type of test(s) you need.

Several at-home STD options and public testing locations can cost up to $250, with most on the higher end, depending on the brand and type of testing. Public testing fees also vary based on income and welfare eligibility.

With private testing, you may save money on a low-cost comprehensive 10-test panel that tests for the most common bacterial and viral STDs in the United States.

SaferSTD has researched and identified reputable locations that offer upfront pricing without hidden fees. Click here to find a preferred location near you.

Looking for a Low Cost or Free STD Testing Clinic? Let's See What's Available in Port St. Lucie, FL

With an estimated one in four adults positive for a sexually transmitted infection at least once in their lives, it is a good thing you have several public STD centers. Some are in town on the way to attractions, and others might be a little out of the way.

Care Net Pregnancies of the Treasure Coast not only treats all stages of pregnancy, they also have testing for STIs listed as on of their services. Their hours vary at the two locations, one on S Federal St and the other farther away in Stuart. What sets this facility apart are the many ways you can set up an appointment. Call, send an email or participate in a “live chat”.

Planned Parenthood has an office not too far away, and for some it is worth the 7-mile drive. There is a toll-free number listed on their website and they can direct you to one of their 10 other clinics. With 11 in South, North and East FL., you’re bound to find one that is convenient no matter where you are. All types of STI testing can be free or reduced, just inquire at the time of the appointment.

You’ll feel welcome at the Center for Sexual Health & Wellness. Even their building on SE Hillmoor Dr. appears inviting. Parking isn’t a problem, even when the clinic is packed. Walking in occasionally isn’t a problem but you could be in for a long wait. While the STI diagnostic tests are FDA approved they can be pricey if you don’t have insurance.

Affordable or Free HIV Testing Clinics Near Port St. Lucie, FL

Sadly, HIV and AIDS are becoming more common. It tends to follow the same trend as the other major STDs. While your getting an STI test, why don’t you go ahead and get checked for HIV? It will save you time and possible some money when you are screened for everything at once. However, if you are only worried about the autoimmune deficiency virus there are centers not far.

The state health department has an office in Port St Lucie on NW Milner Dr. Their comprehensive HIV program includes testing that is often free, along with information on prevention. Since it is a federal health care center get ready for crowds, and it should also be mentioned that the hours can and do frequently change without notice. If insurance is a problem or your income is below the stated average you could qualify for a free HIV test.

Along with Herpes testing and Chlamydia kits, the Youth AIDS Coalition has partnered with several private labs. Some provide free tests, though only for those that qualify. With an appointment you don’t have to worry about how much time it will take, you are in and out in only a few minutes. This is the benefit of going through a private clinic instead of a public one.

Since there aren’t that many public health centers to serve every resident in need, overcrowding, lines and delays in seeing a health care professional are common. You won’t run into these problems if you decide to go with a private lab. Some of the others in the area that residents in the know prefer include LabCorp with one location on S US Highway 1 and Quest Diagnostics over on South East Goldtree Dr.

STD Testing and Sexual Health Education in Port St. Lucie, FL

Parents that want their child to receive all aspects of health ed must sign a permission slip. If they don’t, their child will be left out of the most important parts of the class. Since these slips don’t always make it home, parents often don’t even know that there is something their child is missing out on. To help fill this void and promote HIV and STD awareness many clinics have taken it upon themselves to bring education to the public.

One of the forerunners of this cause is Planned Parenthood, and some of the burden is being relived by the Center for Sexual Health and Awareness. Sign-up for a class, ask questions of their counselors or simply grab some literature on your way out. The goal at both of these clinics is to prevent sexually transmitted diseases from infecting anyone else.

Florida’s health department also works with HIV/AIDS prevention. A complete schedule can be found on their website for all their classes and programs. Some might be geared more for adults, but they, PP and the CSHA also have classes for teenagers that missed out in school.

Other resources include the library’s health section and the internet. With the amount of information out there, there is no excuse for staying uninformed.

Better Sexual Health in Port St. Lucie, FL

Orchids and other flowers draw butterflies and hummingbirds to the Botanical Gardens, while the Riverwalk Boardwalk is a quiet place to reflect and observe nature. These attractions are worth a visit, and so is one to a local lab or public clinic. If you would rather it be fast and discreet, a private STI center is your best bet. You’ll be in and out before you know it, and it’s more affordable than you realize.
