Aiken Department of Health has reported a rise in the number of HIV infections over the years. In 2017,19 cases at a rate of 11.3 per 100,000 population were reported, and the number slightly increased to 23 cases at a rate of 13.7 in the year 2018.
The number of Gonorrhea cases reported slightly increased from 425 infections at a rate of 252.7 in 2017 to 482 cases at a rate of 286.6 in 2018.
Chlamydia infections increased from 918 cases at a rate of 545.8 in 2017 to 1067 cases at a rate of 634.4 in 2018. The number of Chlamydia infections in 2018 recorded the highest infections in comparison to that of other STDs in the city.
The number of Syphilis nearly doubled from 32 cases at a rate of 13.1 in 2017 to 60 cases at a rate of 35.7 in 2018, and a large number of infections was the black community.
