Orangeburg, SC, is a city and the county seat of Orangeburg County. The county experienced fluctuations in the number of HIV diagnoses, increasing from a prevalence rate of 447 per 100,000 individuals to 511 in 2015 and 2017, respectively. A 12.7% decrease in rate followed in 2018 to 446, and infections remained relatively constant through 2020, with 442.
Chlamydia infections indicated a gradual increase from 1,077.3 per 100,000 individuals in 2016 to 1,159.2 in 2018. Additionally, incidences of Chlamydia were more prevalent compared to other sexually transmitted diseases.
New diagnoses of Gonorrhea infections among county residents doubled from 302.6 reported in 2016 to 600.2 in 2018. Most the infections were common among persons aged 20 to 25 years.
Total syphilis infections indicated a wavy trend from an annual rate of 36.4 in 2016 to 27.4 in the following year and increased by 42.0% to 38.9 in 2018.
