The number of STD diagnoses in Bossier City’s Parish are on the rise with new chlamydia cases reaching 651 in 2016. It’s also experiencing a growing amount of primary and secondary syphilis diagnoses. There were 13 cases in 2013 and in 2016, the number of new infections jumped to 22. 160 new cases of gonorrhea in 2016 

In 2016, there were 22 new diagnoses in the Bossier Parish, a significant increase from 17 in 2013. The Louisiana DDH Office reports that 21 % of all new cases were high-risk, heterosexual males. There are 247 known persons living with HIV in the parish. 

The Louisiana State Department of Health and Hospitals is working to address the growing HIV rate in the Shreveport-Bossier City area among 13-to-24-year-olds by educating the age group about the real dangers of HIV/AIDS. 

The Philadelphia Center in Shreveport is one of the locations helping teens and all residents with HIV/AIDS education and STI testing services for the gay, bisexual, and transgender community. 

Bossier and the surrounding parishes have several public and private STD testing clinics. 

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals operates the Bossier Parish Health Unit on Old Minden Rd and the nearby Caddo Parish Health Unit on Creswell Ave in Shreveport, which offers STD screenings on specific days of each month. 

Some locations may offer free or low-cost testing services. However, they might only provide traditional HIV blood tests, or free may apply just to specific tests like HIV and charge a fee for other STI screenings.
