HIV/STD trends from the Kaufman County Health Department reveals that HIV infections continue to increase even with preventive measures in place.
Health data shows that the MSM population is leading in HIV/STD diagnosis. Most of them are at a high likelihood of getting a partner with an STD, which often leads to HIV.
In 2015, HIV cases were 119 and later increased by 177 new cases in 2018.
All the three STDs, namely; Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis, also increased from 2011 to 2018.
Chlamydia cases were 315 in 2011 and soared to 493 new cases in 2018. Gonorrhea was the second frequent reported STI after Chlamydia. Gonorrhea infections rose from 76 in 2011 but later progressed to 151 in 2018.
Syphilis cases, mostly high in men, were at 9 cases in 2011 and went up to 33 cases in 2018.
The Kaufman County Health Department has increased HIV/STD interventions and preventive measures. There are individual and group prevention counseling, HIV/STD preventive education, personal confidential HIV/STD testing, anonymous HIV testing, faith-based services, housing assistance, etc.
