On September 26, 2017 the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) noted that STD’s were at a record high in the USA and urgent intervention for prevention was needed. Unfortunately, but not surprising, Tigard a city located in Washington County Oregon also marked a sharp increase in STIs.
According to CDC data Chlamydia rates were at 444.0 per 100000 while Gonorrhea rates stood at 137.1 per 100000. Syphilis rate stood at 9.2 cases per 100000. STD surveillance data suggests that 5% of teenagers in the Washington County of Oregon are infected with an STD.
In 2015 8% out of the 560 new Chlamydia cases reported in the Washington County was from Tigard. Tigard also accounted for 9.8% and 15.2% of new gonorrhea cases and Syphilis cases, respectively in the Washington County
Dr Sarah Present, “The number of babies born with congenital Syphillis is increasing at an alarming rate. This is has not been the case in the past decade or more. We are doing our absolute best to have the first person diagnosed with an STD to talk to their partner for us.”
Tigard has a number of public and private clinics which offer STD testing services. Some of the clinics are, the Columbia Clinic Urgent Care which does Chlamydia and Syphilis testing as well as HIV testing.
You can also visit the AFC Urgent Care Lake Oswego and the AFC Urgent Care NW Portland, which offers Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Herpes, Syphilis and Hepatitis tests.
Free STD testing may be offered in some public clinics though results might not be immediate and doctors consultation might come at an extra cost.
