DeSoto is a suburb of Dallas, but like most suburbs of larger cities, its STD rates are a bit lower, since the population density in urban areas tends to facilitate the spread of STDs.
In 2016, Dallas County’s HIV prevalence rate was 807.7 per 100K people, which is pretty high. But the main zip code making up DeSoto had a rate of 689, while the rates of zip codes in central Dallas went up to 6,000.
But health officials are worried that there are more people out there with HIV who have not been tested. Social stigma can make some people reluctant to come to the clinics, but medical professionals are discreet and only want to help you.
In 2017, Dallas County had 19,084 chlamydia cases, at a rate of 728.9 per 100K people (remember that the DeSoto rates would have been lower). The gonorrhea and syphilis rates were 271.4 and 90.6.
DeSoto doesn’t have many STD-testing clinics, but there are many more options in Dallas (and you may be able to find free STD testing there). PrimaCare Urgent Care does STI testing and treatment.
Los Barrios Unidos on Illinois Ave provides STI testing and treatment. Planned Parenthood is located on Virginia Dr in South Dallas. They test for STIs and treat all except HIV, and their fee is on a sliding scale.
