Winchester is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Clark County within the Bluegrass Area Development District. According to the recent surveillance report, it’s clear that HIV/STD infections prevail in the area.
According to the report, HIV cases rose from 54 in 218 to 56 in 2019.
In 2007, the report estimated Chlamydia infections to be somewhere at a rate between 129.6 and 192.3 per group of 100,000.
The public health’s report indicates that Gonorrhea infection rates ranged between 94.0 to 138.9 in 2007. Health Planning also showed that the rate of Syphilis infections ranged between 5.7 and 7.5 per cluster of 100,000 persons in 2007.
Department of Public Health in Clark County within the Bluegrass Area Development District has launched a KHCCP program that will assist low-income, eligible individuals with the purchase of HIV medications. Additionally, KHCCP facilitates the provision of quality care to PLWHA. The health department has considered providing sex educational programs for young people and increasing HIV testing in rural areas.
There are plenty of medical facilities in Winchester, KY, that provide HIV/STD services, including Planned Parenthood – Bluegrass Health Center and Clark Clinic Immediate Care (Urgent Care). Clients can also visit CHI Saint Joseph Health – Saint Joseph Mount Sterling and Clark Regional Medical Center.
Residents can access free STD testing in most of these clinics. Although results might not be immediate, and prescriptions for after-test care might not be available if they tested positive.
