Your trusted source for comprehensive and unbiased STD testing locations, statistics, and resources. Backed by board-certified physicians and aligned with CDC guidelines, we're committed to providing accurate, up-to-date information to empower your health choices.

What STD tests do I need?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention1 (CDC) recommends screening for the most common STDs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, herpes 1, herpes 2, and HIV for both men and women. In addition, the CDC suggests women get screened for trichomoniasis.

SaferSTD recommends searching for locations that offer a 10-test panel which tests for the most common bacteria and viral STDs in the U.S. with additional premium add-ons like early HIV detection, if needed.

When should I get tested?

The CDC2 provides detailed STD testing information as to when you should get tested. In summary, you should get tested today if you are sexually active, never been tested before, have had unprotected sex in the past, or if you exhibit symptoms.

According to the World Health Organization3, the majority of STI cases reported every day, more than one million, are asymptomatic; another reason to get tested today.

You should get tested again in 90 days to rule out STDs that have specific exposure waiting times, including HIV.

How are STD tests done?

STD testing can be a quick and simple process, depending on the type of test you choose and where you get tested. Some may require an oral or genital swab, a urine test or blood sample, or a physical exam to check your genital area for signs of an STD.

SaferSTD has identified preferred providers that require only a urine test, a blood sample, or both without a physical exam.

How fast do I get my results?

The speed at which you receive your STD testing results depends on where you get tested. Before you choose your location, find out how long testing results will take.

At-home STD testing results are usually 3-5 business days, depending on the manufacturer of your test. You also need to take into account the amount of time it takes to receive the test or pick one up, perform the test, and ship it back, before the lab can analyze your results and report back to you.

If you test at a public facility such as a neighborhood clinic, you may have to wait a week, if not more for the results, which could delay treatment. If you test through a private facility, they have the fastest turnaround within 1-3 business days.

SaferSTD has researched and identified the most accredited and most reputable testing locations. Click here to find a preferred location near you.

What same-day testing locations are available in Cheektowaga, NY?

Some STD testing clinics offer same-day walk-in options without an appointment. Below are nearby preferred locations that offer this option.

How much will STD testing cost in Cheektowaga, NY?

The cost of STD testing depends on whether you select private, public, or at-home testing, as well as the type of test(s) you need.

Several at-home STD options and public testing locations can cost up to $250, with most on the higher end, depending on the brand and type of testing. Public testing fees also vary based on income and welfare eligibility.

With private testing, you may save money on a low-cost comprehensive 10-test panel that tests for the most common bacterial and viral STDs in the United States.

SaferSTD has researched and identified reputable locations that offer upfront pricing without hidden fees. Click here to find a preferred location near you.

Sexual Health Education

STD Testing and Sexual Health Education in Cheektowaga, NY

Over 44% of the high school students in Erie County have reported that they have had sex encounters. Only two thirds of these percentage reported that they have used a condom. This clearly shows why most of the STD infections are people within 15-29 age bracket. With the increasing number of STD infection in Cheektowaga, the Health Community has put in policies to educate the youth and locals on Sex.

High schools and middle schools in the city teach abstinence only as the only means of preventing STDs and unwanted pregnancies. This method has not been effective due to the current technology and social media interactions mostly amongst the youth who are sexually active.

The County Health Department along with the State’s Department of Health have joined hands to fight the alarming increase of STDs in the city. They are pushing for High schools students to be offered free condoms. They consider this as a means of curbing the prevalent Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Syphilis infection.

The School Boards are also pushing for the introduction of comprehensive sexual education in Middle and High Schools in their curriculums. This would help them understand the need for prevention of unwanted pregnancies and STDs. All health centers, Planned Parenthood centers and Urgent cares in the city also offer contraceptive and sex education to their clients along with condoms.

The State’s education department has also urged organisations to partner with communities and families to help in the development of policies that would offer consistent and appropriate sex education to the youth.

Planned Parenthood Centers have also organized demonstrations on contraceptive and condom use to teach in High schools. Parents are allowed to opt out their children from these classes if they feel they are not age appropriate to their children.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Demographics in Cheektowaga, NY

Population statistics have had a greater influence in the increased STD rates in Cheektowaga. The rapid economic growth and tourism attraction sites has attracted many investors and tourists in the city. With many people from different parts of the world including the diverse population distribution of many races, the city’s different cultures have played a great role in the escalating numbers of STDs. The city’s population has more than six different races with different norms, values and definitely different cultures.

The slow implementation of the comprehensive sexual education in Middle and High schools has also facilitated the growth of STDs in the city schools. The youth, which is the most sexually active part of the population lack the proper sexaul educationand therefore cannot make informed sex decisions. Being unaware of the dangers of unprotected sex,  they are vulnerable to STDs and unwanted pregnancies.

Most of the youth have access or own a phone. This makes it easy for them to access social media, which has all types of materials including obscene materials. Also the social media increases social interactions and hence the increased probability of having intimate relationships at early ages.

With the increase in population, the rate of unemployment in the city has also increased. Unemployment results in despair amongst the youth who may turn to sex as a form of relief. This also increases the chances of STD infections.

Increased use of drugs and alcohol abuse in the city has also greatly influenced the increase of STDs in the city. Most of the youth don’t have money for the drugs and hence exchange sex for drugs. Drug use impairs judgement and sex is not an exception. Unemployment and drug use creates a conducive platform for STD infection.

With the above factors inhibiting the fight against STDs in Cheektowaga, the Health Department of Erie County has organized outreach programs to help sensitize the youth and the locals on the need of comprehensive sexual education.
