There is a 45% increase in sexually transmitted diseases in California with case counts of more than 305,000. In Ventura County, Port Hueneme, the upwards trend has been all similar with cases of chlamydia, syphilis and gonorrhea has more than double from 2013 through to 2017.
According to the California Department of Public Health STD statistics for year 2013 and 2017, there has been significant alarming incidence increases. Gonorrhea has jumped from 333 to 714, 31 to 94 in syphilis cases and 2,520 to 2,853 cases.
In reality the STD prevalence cases could be higher than reported as most people who are sexually active fail to get screened regularly. They, however, should know the heavy burden of health that comes with untreated and undiagnosed sexually transmitted diseases.
California Department of Public Health has made sexual health a priority with control, management and prevention efforts geared towards vulnerable populations; young adults and teenagers, pregnant women and females generally, gays, and bisexuals. Campaigns are ongoing to sensitize all sexually active persons to get tested.
Port Hueneme has various public STD testing centers such as Ventura County Health Care Agency – South Oxnard Clinic, Ocean View Health Center on Olds and Oxnard COMMUNITY Clinic – Clinicas del Camino Real are some of the available options.
Even though some local clinics might offer free STD testing services along with treatment, these health centers may open and operate at different times which might be inconvenient or the clinics might not have walk-in options. In addition, these clinics might limit you to pay using only one mode of payment and the doctors might not be available on site or through the phone.
