Total Syphilis infections also showcased a surge in numbers. There were 197 positive diagnoses in 2016 with an occurrence rate of 24.3. The count increased to 247 in 2017, with the prevalence rate being 30.4. There was an extra surge in 2018 to 318 new infections occurring at a prevalence rate of 39.1.
The surveillance report shows a decline in chlamydia infections. The rate of infection per 100,000 population in 2016 was 856.8, and the case count was 6,932. There was a decline in the following year that recorded 6,869 cases at a rate of 844.0 per 100,000 individuals. The infections later increased to 6,963 in 2018, with a prevalence rate of 855.6.
Hamilton County Public Health offers various STD/HIV prevention services to eliminate or reduce the increasing numbers of STD incidents in the county.
The services include administration of PrEP medication, STD testing and treatment, partner notification, and sex education.
Planned Parenthood – Cincinnati Surgical Center, Caracole Inc., and Pregnancy Center West are some STD testing centers that serve the White Oak area.
