What are the STI test options in Westchester,FL?
Westchester is a community in suburban Miami-Dade County, Florida. Miami-Dade County is currently facing an STD epidemic, being the county with the most STD cases in the entire state of Florida. Especially chlamydia, gonorrhea and infectious syphilis have become more prevalent.
Chlamydia has been steadily increasing for years. Between 2010 and 2018, the rate per 100,000 increased by 38% (346,5 to 478,4). During this same time, the gonorrhea rate increased by 57% and infectious syphilis by 31%. Luckily, the HIV rate has been declining.
The Florida Department of Health has reported that sexually transmitted diseases are now amongst the leading causes of death and illness in Florida. They are actively working in conjunction with counties to control and contain STD’s as much as possible.
There are plenty of private and public STD testing clinics in the vicinity of Westchester, with public options including the West Dade/Sweetwater Health Center, where both patients and non-patients can receive confidential HIV testing, and the Rosie Lee Wesley Health Center. Both of these clinics accept Medicare and Medicaid.
Other public clinics are the Thelma Gibson Health Initiative, the Miami Health Center, and the Palm Center Clinic. The Thelma Gibson Health Initiative is only for people older than 14.
In case you are worried about money, you should know that there may be free STD testing available. Not everybody, however, qualifies for this. Whether you are qualified for free testing often depends on income and welfare eligibility. Free STD testing may also not be very comprehensive.
