Camp Springs is an unincorporated area and census-designated city in Prince George’s County. Officials at the Prince George’s County Department of Health and Human Services realized fluctuation in the pattern of new HIV infections recorded between 2013 and 2015. There were 401 new infections in 2013, 360 in 2014, and 392 cases in 2015.
Regarding new Chlamydia infections, there was an increase in prevalence between 2016 and 2018, whereby the rate of infection in 2016 was 740.4 in every 100,000 population, while in 2018, Chlamydia diagnoses were recorded at a rate of 877.9 per 100,000 persons.
Gonorrhea diagnoses depicted a wavy pattern in 2014, 2015, and 2016. As of 2014, the rate of new infections stood at 142.0 in every population of 100,000 and in 2015, the value had dropped to 140.7 in every 100,000 individuals. However, in 2016 the rate of infection rose exponentially to 200.9 cases in every 100,000 people.
Furthermore, the rate of new Syphilis infections almost doubled between 2015 and 2018. The rate of infection in 2015 was 8.9 per 100,000 population while by 2018, the rate of infection was 16.8 in every 100,000 persons.
Through the Maryland State Health Department and other regional health partners' concerted efforts, Prince George's County Health Department has been eradicated HIV/STDs within the county. Some of the resources it's been leveraging to achieve this goal include the "Keep It Sexually Safe" and the free condom distribution programs as well as partner notification and referral services to prevent the spread of HIV/STDs amongst sexually active partners and PrEP distribution initiatives for high-risk persons.
