Eighty-seven percent of all HIV cases in Prince Georges County are African American males. Also, from 2007 to 2016, chlamydia cases grew from 4,857 to 6,753 cases. In addition, there were 111 diagnosed cases of syphilis in 2014.
IN Prince Georges County, Maryland, gonorrhea cases rose from more than 150 cases to well over 200 cases between 2009 and 2017.
Prince Georges County residents have a variety of options when it comes to STD testing. Shelby Women’s Health on Edmonston Road provides STD testing. Dimensions Healthcare System (Glenridge Medical Center) on Annapolis Road and First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville (HIV/AIDS Awareness Ministry) on Belcrest Road provide STD testing for county residents.
County residents can also seek STD testing at La Clinica Del Pueblo on Belcrest Center Drive and Prince Georges County Health Department (HIV/AIDS Program) on Hospital Drive.
Other testing locations include SOMOSCASA (Health Services) on University Boulevard and Heart to Hand Incorporated on Apollo Drive. The Family and Medical Counseling Service Incorporated (Seat Pleasant Clinic) on Martin Luther King Junior Highway is also a viable location for STD testing.
Some county residents may be eligible for free STD testing at various locations in the county. However, some of these locations may have limited hours and may not offer county residents the option to schedule appointments in advance. Other locations may not have walk-in services and the hours might be inconvenient.
Also, many of the tests offered may be limited and may not provide comprehensive results. County residents who test positive for an STD may not have access to medical consultation or prescriptions for medication.
