East Palo Alto is a city between San Jose and San Francisco on the San Francisco Peninsula. It is located within San Mateo county where recently, the data showed there were 2,577 cases of chlamydia, 616 cases of gonorrhea, 55 cases of syphilis, and 1,552 cases of HIV.
“There’s always room for better and newer, different condoms, which would be helpful, new vaccines,” the STD Control Officer for San Mateo County said.
San Mateo County Department of Public Health supports efforts and programs against STDs/HIV and has an HIV Testing van that you can call for testing or results, or exchange needles. They also offer comprehensive medical care for HIV patients and have support groups for both english and spanish speaking patients.
The county raises awareness against HIV and AIDS through the Greater Than AIDS campaign. It encourages HIV testing and educates people to help reduce the stigma surrounding STDs.
Stanford University Medical Center has a Positive Care Clinic in Palo Alto on Quarry Rd and MayView Community Health Center has another clinic on Grant Ave. Sutter Urgent Care is also available in Palo Alto on El Camino Real.
Planned parenthood has a clinic nearby in Redwood on El Camino Real. Another option in Redwood is the San Mateo Medical Center on Middlefield Rd.
Clinics may vary in their hours and availability or may not give prescriptions after a positive test. Some clinics may not offer free STD testing.
