San Clemente is at the very southern end of Orange County where the incidence rate of syphilis has increased by 346% between 2010 and 2016. On the other hand, there are no cases or no data of HIV for 2018.
While Orange County’s numbers are below state averages, the county has seen a significant increase in all types of STDs over the last three years as well, according to the county’s Health Care Agency.
San Clemente public health is managed by the Orange County Health Care Agency which supports efforts to reduce rates of HIV and STDs in the area. They offer HIV planning and coordination to support prevention and care, partner services, events such as the Gay Men Summit in June, and other efforts in areas related to education, prevention, and advocacy.
There are a few options to consider within San Clemente. The Pregnancy Resource Center on Avenida De La Estrella, the Hybrid MD Urgent Care on Avenida Pico, or the San Clemente Medi-Center on South El Camino Real are a few options.
Clinics in neighboring cities include Surfside Urgent Care of Laguna Beach on Coast Hwy and the Camino Health Center in San Juan Capistrano.
While some of these clinics may offer free STD testing, there are some things to keep in mind when choosing a clinic. Not all clinics are open regular hours, an appointment may be required, some clinics are busier than others and may have long wait times, or not all tests are free.
