Rutherford is a borough in Bergen County. Over the past few years, the HIV prevalence rate in the county has remained relatively constant. In 2017, the recorded rate was 1,890 per 100,000 persons that reduced to 1,763 in both 2018 and 2019, followed by 1,761 reported in 2020.
Rutherford borough did not register any cases of Gonorrhea infection between 2014 and 2018. In 2019, there was an escalation, with ten reported cases.
The Bergen County Department of Health Services has managed to eradicate cases of Syphilis infections in the borough, with no cases reported between 2014 and 2019.
Chlamydia infections in the borough showed fluctuations, with cases doubling from 25 in 2014 to 47 in 2017, followed by a slight decrease to 37 in both 2018 and 2019.
The Bergen County Department of Health Services has an HIV Testing and Counseling Program. Through it, residents in the borough and county gain access to HIV/STD testing, preventive care, risk reduction counseling, assessment and referrals for drug treatment, HIV, Hepatitis, and pregnancy care. It also provides safe sex supplies to individuals at higher risk of HIV/STD transmission, including MSMs.
Planned Parenthood – Paterson Health Center offers comprehensive sexual health services, including STD/HIV screening in the Rutherford area. Other facilities include AFC Urgent Care Lyndhurst, City MD, and St. Mary’s General Hospital.
You could also visit local health centers to access free STD testing; however, prescriptions for after test care might not be available if you’ve tested positive, and people will know why you’re there.
