New Square is an all-Hasidic village in Rockland County. Public health officials in the county recorded an uptick in HIV diagnoses between 2020 and 2021. In the first year of reference, there were 10 new infections, and 12 people were newly diagnosed with HIVin 2021.
There was a decrease in the number of new Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis cases between 2019 and 2020. In 2019, 1,182 Chlamydia diagnoses were reported at a rate of 383.5 per 100,000 population while in 2020 had 935 new cases, rated at 310.5.
Within the same time frame, there were 140 new Gonorrhea infections in 2019 rated at 47.3 whereas the following year had 114 diagnoses with a rate of 38.1.
New Early Syphilis cases also dropped from 38 in 2019 to 35 new diagnoses in 2020. The diagnostic rates were 13.6 and 12.2, respectively.
