What are the STI test options in Teaneck, NJ?

The Bergen County Township of Teaneck is currently experiencing a drastic upswing in STDs and HIV. The metro NYC suburb is rapidly approaching an epic health crisis as the prevalence rates of nearly every STD grow by leaps and bounds.

During the five-year period between 2014 and 2018, Teaneck realized an increase in STD cases that surpassed 45%. The majority of this upswing is concentrated in the cases of Chlamydia which saw a growth of 43%.

HIV cases rose by a whopping 61% during that same time period climbing from 70 to 115. These increases exceed the state and national averages.

According to an anonymous source from within their local health department, “Teaneck continues to be buried beneath the growing STD crisis that is gripping New Jersey and the rest of the country today.”

Teaneck residents who wish to be screened for HIV and STDs have a plethora of choices at their disposal. While the Teaneck Health Department does not list these testing services among their offerings, several others have picked up the mantle and may.

Among those is the North Hudson Community Action Corporation in Hackensack. This civic-minded organization provides a number of services to members of the community.

Planned Parenthood’s Hackensack Health Center on Main Street may also be an avenue to pursue when looking for STD/HIV testing. Also, Sovereign Medical Group on Degraw Avenue in Teaneck might be able to provide testing and other resources.

While these health centers might offer free STD testing, be sure you know exactly what that entails. These free services may not be comprehensive, could have fees that are not listed up front, and may not include a doctor consultation.
