Lake County had 494,211 cases with a rate of 234 per 100,000 people in 2012. Chlamydia cases recorded in the county were 2,881 with a rate of 590.8 in 2017. These infections had plummeted from the previous year which recorded a rate of 603.3 per 100,000 population.
Syphilis infections rose steadily from the previous year with the infections being higher in heterosexual men. 25 cases at a rate of 6.2 per 100,000 individuals were recorded in 2016, and in 2017, the infections had slightly increased to 38 with a rate of 7.8 per 100,000 individuals.
The number of Gonorrhea cases nearly doubled from the previous year with the number increasing from 501.1 at a rate of 148.7 per 100,000 people in 2016 to reach 854 at a rate of 175.1 per 100,000 people in 2017.
Youth Advisory Council is an organization that offers online STD testing in Munster County. It also offers counseling, family planning, sex education, and prevention and control measures for STDs. The Midwest Aids Training and Education Center (MATEC) offers workshops and skill-building programs to help residents in STD prevention.
